We collaborate with local organizations such as libraries, community centers, and school boards, to develop and offer a variety of workshops and webinars on a range of digital accessibility topics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Accessible Technology

Anyone with a disability may benefit from assistive or accessible technology. Please see below for examples.

  • Physical and motor barriers – individuals can benefit from learning how to navigate their device with their voice, alternative gestures, or external items such as switches, etc.
  • Speech, cognitive, and mental health barriers – individuals within these categories can benefit from using specialized apps for setting reminders of ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living), health management apps, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) apps, etc.
  • Hearing impairments – individuals can benefit from on-demand ASL interpretation apps, captions and transcripts, connect and manage their hearing aids, use of amplification devices, etc.
  • Vision impairments – individuals can benefit from using speech to text, magnification and zoom settings, switch access, etc.
  • You live in Canada.
  • You own a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or computer and have a disability.
  • You require training and support on how to use your device’s accessibility features.
  • You are looking for recommendations on assistive technology, including apps, software and hardware for your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or computer.
  • Once the application is received, you will be contacted within 3 business days to schedule an intake. It may take up to 2 weeks to schedule this depending on the current case load of staff.
  • There currently is not a waitlist for the training, however, this could change.

The duration of the training varies depending on the learning needs as well as the complexity of your accessibility needs. Services may last as long as 5 months or as short as 1 session.

We have access to a small number of loaner tablets that individuals can borrow in order to participate in training. Our Assistive Technology team can request these for individuals once the intake is completed.

Our Assistive Technology Specialists are a group of compassionate and patient individuals who work with you at your pace to achieve your goals.

Our drop-in sessions take place every Thursday at 1:00 PM ET, with each week dedicated to exploring assistive technology solutions tailored to specific accessibility challenges as well as general information and inquiries, including:
